Pattachitra Paintings are one of the most famous and oldest art forms of Odisha. The name "Pattachitra" comes from the Sanskrit word Patta which stands for canvas or chitra. It is a painting done on canvas with rich and colourful motifs and designs. These paintings showcase simple themes, mostly mythological characters.
This Pattachitra is a representation of Odisha's local culture along with Lotus, shell and blunt mace (gada) motifs. Its borders are filled with Lotus motifs, and the aanchal presents a picture of Lord Jagannath, Maa Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra together. They are sitting inside the sacred Puri temple, with its flag on the top and two angles protecting them. The head of the temple also has 10 depictions, indicating the 10 incarnations of Vishnu.
