Black Maroon Lotus and Kalasa Odisha Handloom Khandua Silk Saree
The black and red is a class of colors. This khandua saree has black body with red motifs all over. The black colored body has red flowers all over, and there is a vase type structure which is like birds sticking their back towards each other in beautiful boxes. The aanchal of the saree has flowers and animals which makes it very beautiful. There are elephants, big flowers, horses and other little motifs all over the aanchal. The elephant motif is of black and the horse is of red and the flowers are of yellow and black, the border is of orange and red with traditional khandua border pattern.
Khandua Pata Sarees have a pious and religious omen and are often a part of auspicious occasions in Odia Households. Kataki and Manibandha are other names of Khandua Pata Saree. These sarees are from the village of Nuapatna and special Khandua Patta have the texts of the famous play Gita Govinda by Jaydev.
