Pattachitra Paintings are one of the most famous and oldest art forms of Odisha. The name "Pattachitra" comes from the Sanskrit word Patta which stands for canvas or Chitra. It is a painting done on canvas with rich and colourful motifs and designs. These paintings showcase simple themes, mostly mythological characters.
This Pattachitra represents Lord Krishna and his brother Balaram returning to Mathura after defeating and killing their evil uncle Kansa. The whole city can be seen celebrating their return. This is a symbol of victory of good over evil, and that light will always overshadow darkness.
